I am a Homes Under the Hammer fanatic and am staggered how much landlords are able to charge, sometimes for little more than a cupboard.
My old cottage in East Anglia was recently up for sale recently and when I looked at the sale site I nearly fell off my chair at the listed price. It is a Victorian Farm cottage, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and living room and is on a private road on the farm. It still has the old fireplace in 2 rooms. I paid 73,000 pounds for it in 1984 and added a few modern touches. I won awards for the garden and even opened to the public under the National Open Gdn scheme. It is called Rabbit Hutch Cottage which will give some idea of it's size!
It was selling for 300,00 pounds and I understand it was sold for just under that price... I should have rented it out...
No way could I now live in UK, I couldn't afford to...
