Vaccine and The Deal topics (amongst others)
« on: 26 Dec, 2020, 07:32:50 pm »
Thank you Roger for your understanding of the information that is being put out in the UK and Spanish Press and how it could affect people living here - your input is most welcome and certainly appreciated.  :tiphat:

The daily 7 day rolling average for Spain indicates that the infection is under control although not falling.
Infections are below 10,000 and deaths below 200.

By comparison the figures for the UK are
35,000 and 500.

The president of Andalusia will be convening a meeting of officials tomorrow to look at the situation and decide on how to proceed with any restrictions.
The good news is that in our health region, Levante of almeria, infections have fallen a lot.

I cannot help but wonder if the UK's higher rates might have been lower if mask wearing was mandatory while outside at all times and not just inside shops etc.

I don't think so Frankie, you've only got to look at the areas affected most and the population demographics, and then watch the news about some BAME people saying they won't take the vaccine because it is against their religion, or even that it has a "chip" in it so the government can trace them... perhaps they don't want the chip to fall off their shoulder.  :dunno:

I'm confused, if the register is not being shown, why have it?
I've been told I will be notified when I am eligible to get it but do not trust that as I have never been contacted when it's my turn for the 'flu jab.

Spain received the balance of the 350,000 vaccines today, a day late due to technical problems in Belgium.
There will be a regular delivery of 350,000 every week, distributed in accordance with population.
I calculate this will be around 75,000 a week for Andalucia.
Obviously not enough.
But the Spanish government has stated that in total they have pre ordered a total of 110 million from a range of different vaccines, most are awaiting approval in the next few weeks.
The estimate is that half the population will be vaccinated by the summer.

A positive sign is that in Spain only 10% of hospital beds are covid patients, 20% of ICU beds.

2 cases of the UK variant in Malaga, brought in to the airport by a UK national.
So far none detected in almeria.
