Drought alarm
« on: 12 Feb, 2022, 04:58:09 pm »
The winter rain and snow didn't arrive.
The forecast is no rain.
The reservoirs are almost empty.

I was speaking about this to someone yesterday and we both agreed that, although we may have had mizzle from being in clouds, giving a few mill, we could not remember when we'd last had a downpour and I checked my records and it was way back on November 19 and I had 33+ ml in my rain gauge and 17ml on the 18th. I know there have been a few heavy showers down the valley but not up here...
I planted a couple of very small palms I was given on saturday and the ground was bone dry. I had to water the holes and let it soak in before I could plant.  If we don't get any soon up here I shall be using my hose again...

Yesterday the winds were forecast and due to stop about midday. Still blowing, I intended doing a bbq! Ermmm
The lack of rain is an issue. My raised beds are struggling, the earth is poor, my beans and broccoli are struggling. More water needed I guess.
