I saw this a few days ago in La Voz but hadn't the time to post it until now.

Investment of 3 million for bike lanes that connect towns of the Vía Verde
Towns such as Sierro, Suflí, Laroya or Lúcar will have lanes for the safe practice of cycling

--- Quote ---The Junta de Andalucía has announced an investment of three million euros for the construction of bike lanes that allow the connection of small towns with the Vía Verde del Almanzora.

This has been announced by the Association of Municipalities of the Almanzora Valley, valuing what it considers "a commitment that will allow the region to continue to be structured around the old railway track and whose execution period will be around fifteen months."

"It is a palpable reality after more than a year and a half working to achieve it", celebrated the president of the regional entity and mayor of Alcóntar, Antonio Ramón Salas. It is about three million euros of investment that will allow towns such as Sierro, Suflí, Laroya or Lúcar have lanes for sports that do not imply risk for cyclists that throughout the year, but mainly in summer, are usually seen by dozens on the main roads of the region.

"The Vía Verde is a link between each and every one of the towns," says Salas, satisfied with "being able to speak and find valid interlocutors who transform our dreams into realities. They have done it with the Almanzora motorway, with the million-dollar investment to put an end to the problem of water supply, and now with this money that will allow works to be carried out that otherwise could not be undertaken", assures the president of the supra-municipal entity.

"The community has only paid for the project, the investment to be made is entirely money provided by the Junta de Andalucía. To give an example, a path that connects Sierro with the Vía Verde costs about 300,000 euros , something unthinkable for small municipalities", added Salas. "Furthermore, and continuing with the example, "cyclists who come from Sierro and pass through Suflí, will find informative signs indicating which places to visit or where to eat," he adds.

"It is one more example that being together, you can do great things. We have not yet officially communicated it to the municipalities, what we will do in the next assembly," warns the president of the Commonwealth, consulted by this news that was known a few days ago.

The investment of the Junta de Andalucía will allow a connection with a work such as the Vía Verde del Almanzora, which involved more than 2.5 million investment and is currently in its second phase of construction with another investment of 2 million euros more. that will allow the Greenway to be completed in its entirety from El Hijate to Arboleas. All this is the result of the endless optimism of those responsible for the Association of Municipalities of Valle del Almanzora.

But Sufli, Sierro, Lucar and Lucar are nowhere near the old railroad track!  All 3 require quite a steep climb for any cyclist. :undecided:
