In the Sierra Cabrera , beyond Cortijo Grande, but clearly visible from the motorway and the Turre  road, a huge installation has appeared. Not sure when.  Not been down there for a few months. It looks like a strange rectangular mast, and maybe some low buildings too.

Anybody any idea what it is for?

Was this what you saw? (Not my photos, taken from a walking blog I recently read)
If so, it's probably as Foggy says, a telecommunications tower which you saw.

I think it probably is,what I saw from a much greater distance.

I was talking to a Spanish man in Turre, who told me that it was a new important part of the NATO defence against electronic warfare.

He said, he had seen parts for it being delivered by jump jets!!!

I do hope he was just trying to "pull my leg".

I assume it wasn't  the new Women's wing of the prison near Almeria?  I don't usually go to Almeria via the motorway as it is more direct to go over the top of the mountain and via Tabernas but when I went last time via the motorway I could see that there are a lot of new buildings attached to the prison.

Nope, the installation is on its own, at the top of a mountain in the Sierra Cabreras, just a bit south of Turre. :tiphat:

Not pulling your leg.

La Estación de Cerro Mezquita is part of a military spy network.

Seems there has been some sort of Ministry of Defence facility there for some years but has recently been added to.

Thanks for that.

Not too sure I like living so close, to what may be an important, strategic military target
