I don't know anyone whose bank account has been closed but do know someone whose credit card account with a UK bank is going to be closed as they do not have a UK address

Is this due to Brexit?  I have a very small account with a UK bank but have not been notified of any changes.

I think it only applies to credit cards but some people are panicking

It is only the credit card accounts that are being withdrawn. Barclaycard/ Mastercard or similar and closing bank accounts that have been dormant for at least a year. The latter being commonplace even for those living in UK.
For same reasons HSBC wouldn't renew my credit card when first came to Spain 14 years ago.
Debit card no problem and still have one of those.
So far have had no indication that normal accounts are a problem and get monthly bank statements and am sure that internal banking corporations wouldn’t leave notification until 11th hour.

It has probably all been started and the rumourmongering fired up by articles like these :

If in doubt, check with your own bank / provider

We have heard nothing from our UK bank which is Nationwide about our current account with them in any danger of being closed.
Also today received from the Royal Bank of Scotland two new credit cards so don't see why they would do this if they are going to cancel them.
Don't know if we are coming or going with all this Brexit mess going on!

Yes Jimmy, it's strange. We are also with Nationwide which technically isn't a bank though. We'll wait and see, although I don't think that with everything else going on the banks can afford to lose anymore business.

Not quite the problem the headline would have the reader believe.

Hi all, some facts.
My wife and I have both received emails from Barclaycard stating our credit card account will be closed unless we provide a UK address. This will be from November 16.
As we have bank current accounts I went to online chat to try to get information about any changes. They knew nothing about it. As I am an ex staff member I contacted an ex colleague of mine, last Wednesday. She knew nothing about it either. On Thursday she contacted me to say senior managers received information about customers who have no UK address.
These accounts are being closed hut no timescales were given. This then would apply to us.
Unfortunately many frontline staff are/were not aware of this and changes to addresses to Spain were still being done last week.
I have had accounts with them for 47 years and worked for them too. I'm not happy with their decision but can't do anything about it.
