Title: Covid update

COVID UPDATE

In the past 24 hours Andalucia has reported 2821 new cases and 72 deaths.
For Almeria Province the figures are 218 new cases and 2 deaths.

Almeria Province is one of the two provinces with lowest figures (together with Huelva).
In Almeria in the past 24 hours there have been 12 new hospitalizations, 2 in ICU.
This brings the total for Almeria to 133 in hospital, 35 in ICU.

As yet there is no sign of a statistical fall in numbers.
However Granada province, which has been in severe lockdown for some time, has shown a slight fall in infections.

Some hospitals are under stress, particularly in Sevilla and Granada, and there have been suggestions of moving patients to Malaga where they have spare capacity.
However the staff in Malaga say they are already stressed.

As for the vaccine.
The EU has ordered 1.2 billion of the various vaccines.
This includes 300 million of the Pfizer vaccine, of which Spain will receive 30 million, enough for a third of the population.
However this vaccine has to be stored at minus 80 degrees. It can be transported in dry ice where it will survive for around 5 days. So a lot of problems.
The EU together with everyone is trying to negotiate a deal for the Moderna vaccine.

However a word of caution from the chief virologist in Spain.
She has warned that we do not know how long the protection will last nor whether people will still be infectious.
Also because it boosts the immune system there is limited proof that it will help the most severe cases, where the immune system is already low.
But on the positive side she confirms that they are safe, the only possible side affect (5%) is a headache and aching limbs for a few days.

We have to wait until Sunday to find out what further restrictions will be in place when the current restrictions end.

Thank you Roger.  I see Murcia have extended restrictions until 9th December so that the combined bank holidays are covered.  No doubt Andalusia well may follow.

Almeria might escape because we have a lower infection number.
Murcia is very high.
But we wait to see.
Would not want the responsibility of making that decision.

the number to concentrate is the hospital numbers, icu and deaths.

We've had high case numbers but while the hospital numbers were low no action was taken now those has risen dramatically thats when the restrictions started.

Downside those numbers are still rising

The vice president of Andalusia has suggested that the current restrictions should continue for another 2 weeks, which would cover the two holidays on 8th and 10th.

I live in the Cantoria municipality, can I go to HiperOcio tomorrow to buy a new washing machine as mine packed in today?

Not officially, especially if there is a washing machine store in your town but if you do venture out, take a look in the Electro Ahorro store across the road from HiperOcio, they usually have much better items at much cheaper prices. It might not be "this years model" but still has all the guarantees etc.

A few years ago we got a 1,200 euro fridge when we searched the model number which they were selling for 235€.  It's been excellent and still keeps the beer cold

Had to take several items back there and when looking at TVs found the same model in HiperOcio a lot cheaper.  Have now ordered on line and hopefully coming today.

That's excellent service, I guess it's not Correos Express or SEUR delivering then?

I have bought several items from Electra Ahorra and they delver free of charge up here in Somontin, where others charge more.  I've just bought an all singing, all dancing fridge freezer from them.  It has the same size freezer as fridge which is ideal for me as I rarely cook but when I do I make a large amount and freeze in meal size batches.  This one has a small dent in the side and is almost half RRP.  What's not to like as it still has 3 yr guarantee.

I am afraid to say that I have been disappointed with Electro Ahorra on the last few occasions and wouldn't buy white goods from them again.  More than satisfied with HiperOcio.  We bought a large fridge with matching freezer last year and earlier this year a dishwasher, all the same brand 'Infiniton', very competitive price and have gone with this brand for the washing machine.
