I was heartened to see that the Supreme Court in Madrid has overturned a lower court’s verdict and found the five men, who attacked the young Spanish woman in Pamplona, guilty of rape rather than sexual abuse
However, I doubt whether this change in the sentence would have occurred without the huge swell of disgust that was generated throughout the country with the original court verdict.

From what I have seen on the Spanish TV news recently and in the local paper it was the correct decision. However you are 100% correct that without a groundswell of opinion (me too etc...) it would be still on the backburner :(

Many of the older generation still look on women, if not subservient, as coming second to males. The younger women will not put up with this. It will be a while yet before women, many now having careers of their own, to be recognised for what they are...

I commend the Supreme Court in reaching their decision only fourteen months following the original ruling. If it was not for the public outcry this would have taken far longer. The Court Systems in Spain are slow.
