Post by: frankie on 18 May, 2019, 10:53:17 am: It looks as if there is a possibility the thermometer in El Chopo is reading much differently than the rest of us. It seems unlikely that it is colder than either the Rambla or up here in Somontin.

I see mine as being similar to my bathroom scales - just an indication of whether I am losing or gaining. The thermometers just show if temps are up or down...

Post by: Judi_bk on 16 Jun, 2019, 06:38:15 pm: week starting 3 June. The last few weeks I have started the comparison with last year and thought it is hotter this year but as I put the figures in and move down the valley it is very similar. Its been hot up in them there hill!

El Chopo has a weather station so if we query a figure there isn't a lot he can do, that's what it said. Me I have John, he's about the same

We are not all using the same thermometers/weather stations so comparisons are not 100% accurate but simply an indication of the rise or fall of temperatures. It still fascinates me how different temperatures are between 'up here' to 'down there'.

Sorry for the delay but I am having huge problems with my laptop freezing. Yesterday I picked up my old desktop which the computer club have upgraded so things should improve when I get it set up

In order to water my garden, I start out out 7.30 when it is in shade of the huge pine trees. This morning it was so peaceful and quiet with no wind, before the village emptied out to work in Macael or Cosentino. I was even out before the goatman. Too hot to do anything after around 10am.

I've just been told that more rain will be on it's way. According to him, the Moon is in a phase where the air will be sucking up the extra moisture and depositing it when clouds become too heavy. At least, I think that is what he was saying. Of course it could be he was telling me that Pedro's goats were being milked! :wink:

I also knew I'd seen the worst storms in the 15 years I've lived here. Looks like Partaloa weren't far behind... There are parts of my garden where I still cannot walk as I sink into the mud.

Oranges seem to be and are are ok but oranges are a few weeks earlier than lemons in the season.

I set off in a T-shirt to go to the market in Purchena but turned the car around and got a thin fleece to put on. It is still on now but I am inside. It is far warmer outside now!

However, here, autumn and spring are my favourite seasons but I still do not like December/January which seem to always be the coldest and July/August which are usually the hottest. If it were to stay like this all year, I would be happy.... :cool:

I had been wondering about the low rainfall. Here is a comparison back as far as my stats go. Blue figure indicate some weeks rainfall amounts are missing but none are more than 3

I needed to water my parched garden on monday and noticed a couple of plants I'd just put in the ground had been 'burnt' by the frost..

I seem to be constantly feeling cold It's possibly due to my pellet burner dying but my house feels much colder than normal and is damp. I do not remember the windows running with condensation for a very long time.

The dark red line to left and right are the boundaries; left with Albox, right with Zurgena. Arboleas is very long and thin. Starting North beyond Limaria at Las Higuarales and ending South past Los Torres and Las Huevanillias to Los Colorados (please excuse spelling). Frankie, you may remember picking someone up on frosty mornings at Las Huevanillas to take him to see his wife in hospital.

Oh, my, how I wish I hadn't. Rain is apparently due by 11 this morning and will last for the remainder of the day and into the night!!! When I see this it really raises my hopes that my 1,200 m sq area of dry dust, the garden, will be getting a good drink, only to then be disappointed when it passes me by. To make it worse I can see rain falling in front of me and also behind the village. But here? NADA! Zilch, Nothing!

Post by: frankie on 23 Oct, 2021, 11:58:29 am: Well, I did get rain after all.... It started about 5 ish and rained on and off for the rest of the day.. Around 9pm it was torrential for a couple of hours and I was hearing of flooding in Olula and Purchena as rain fell down to the valley floor.
Just been down to Purchena and I can see where the rain came above the road near the cement factory and huge piles of rocks and debris which had been washed down. I'm glad it wasn't that bad up here in Somontin.
Spain does no do anything by halves, does it?

Left Arbie in brilliant sunshine and by the time we'd got to the buganvillas roundabout I was wondering where the fog light switch was on the car, even got the snowflake warning on the dash - never seen anything like it but within an hour the sun had burnt off all the mist/cloud, turned out nice after all :thumbsup:

I sent them home... At that stage I did wonder what I'd done, moving to a mountain, as I'd never had temps that low on the farm back in UK.

Post by: shelav on 05 Aug, 2023, 09:42:16 am: Frankie it was one bought off Amazon, the sensors are all outside and there is a digital display on my desk showing current conditions but I had to connect it up to wifi and then weather programs on my laptop which is what caused all the problems so I could see the high and low etc for each day. It is much more complicated than the previous one I had which is no longer available. It is a Sainlogic FT0310

Reading the figures, I seem to be getting my fair share of rain up here, so it must all be running off and not sinking in. Scary! :sad:
