Title: Weather
Post by: Raymondo on 10 Sep, 2019, 12:02:45 pm
A really serious weather warning for rain levels similar to 2012 for Alicante down to Almeria has been issued by the Government Dept for Thursday and Friday.
Be ready and make sure water can run away from your house etc.
Stay safe. ☀🌂🌂

Yes saw that this morning. No one wants the floods of 2012 again. Please God it doesn't happen. We had torrential rain here in Terreros this time last year when we were in Australia. Thankfully we had no damage done.

As Raymondo says, prepare for the worst and hopefully it won't be that bad. 🙏🏻

As with a couple of weeks ago, there is a Gota Fria forecast for the region on thursday.  I had nothing then, so wonder if it will happen this time?

I was thinking the same Frankie.  They’ve been threatening us with thunderstorms every week for 4 weeks now and, until yesterday, we’ve had not a drop.

It's just started to rain here, not heavy though, thankfully.

It rained for half an hour, sun out again. My neighbour was telling me though that all classes and events are cancelled in Aguilas tomorrow because of the adverse weather.

AEMET has just put our area onto red alert for tomorrow, for storms and very heavy rainfall.
Be very careful everyone.  :tiphat:

Well got a little bit of rain in the night but now thunderstorms. The clouds were angry looking and I was sure we would get something, but nothing happened.

It has chucked it down here all night.  Eased off a bit just now but more to come looking at the sky.

We had the storm yesterday evening starting around 6 pm. There seemed to be more flash flooding as we had gentle rain at our house but 2 kilometres away it was torrential. We had very little thunder and lightning.
All schools and events in Aguilas were cancelled yesterday and today Pulpi has done the same.

Did you see some of the scenes on the tv. The man getting into his car as the water was raging down the hill should have been slapped. It's a bloody car, let it go. 😡
Then the people whose homes have been flooded, it's heartbreaking.

Think Alicante airport is open today but Almeria airport is closed, some roads are closed due to flooding so don't think the journey from Alicante will be easy

We had plenty yesterday evening and overnight, also a little this morning, so have no wish for any more. According to AEMET could be a bit more to come overnight and tomorrow morning. Roll on Sunday and through next week hopefully back to late summer mode of Tshirt and shorts, I'm too old for an early winter...

PS you have just had a free weather forecast, any complaints please call aemet :cheesy:

They do say be careful what you wish for....  I had 24 ml yesterday in my rain gauge but have been up most of the night due to my house flooding.  Difficult to clear up as it was coming in from the architrave around the windows in kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom.  I'd get some up in one room and would have to go and do another one...  I gave up at just before 5am as I was shattered.  I pushed all the furniture to the other side of the room from the windows and went to bed hoping for the best.  It was still raining when I got up and had to wait for the grader to come and clear some of the road so I could get out.  I could not believe the size of some of the rocks which had come down, pushed by the force of the water.  It was still running as I left.  Took towels into the launderette to get dry and to get some shopping.  When I was driving back home the sky was incredibly black and it was obvious I would get soaked when I arrived home.  I sat in the car for 20mins but could see the waterbutt was flooded so had to check the hose which was supposed to drain it off into the water channel.  It was blocked.  Garden is flooded and I cannot get down to check it as it needs to drain a bit first.  This was the worst it has been in the over 15 years I have lived here...
ENOUGH; NO MORE!!!!!

That’s awful Frankie!  Certainly puts my leaky sun room roof in the shade.

There’s no happy medium in Spain.  We get not a drop for months on end, then get a year’s worth of rain overnight!  I totally agree - SUFFICIENTE!!!

Sadly Annie, looking at the sky and checking the weather for Somontin, i reckon I may be spending another night mopping up.  I hope I can get some sleep first.

Morning Frankie, so sorry to read about the flooding you had I hope last night wasn't as bad.

Amazing!  Although I had another 75 ml it must have been from a different direction, unless the wood has swollen, keeping rain out, as nothing came inside.  The roads around Olula, Purchena and Fines were worse when I drove through to Albox this morning.  There is a newly opened road to the Museum in Olula and the rain has undermined it.  The digger men must be coining it in...
I doubt I will be watering my garden again until next spring.

Lovely to see the sun again today.  My fancy new washing machine is getting a good run for it’s money and everything is drying beautifully in the warm wind.

Yes, just brought all the towels I used to mop up inside and the next lot are out.
Spanish neighbour seems to think we will get another lot in a couple of days.  Hope he's wrong.

The forecast is for more next weekend, so fingers crossed we’ll get all dried up before that.
