Hi all - can anyone explain why, although when I sign in I selected the 'forever' option, and tick the 'always keep me signed in box', I have to repeat the process every time from scratch whenever I revisit the forum. I know it only takes a few seconds, and it's no big deal, but I just wonder what I am doing wrong - answers on a post card to ....... :dunno:

:hi: It probably depends on how you leave the forum.
If you logout, it will sign you out.
If you click the X on your browser tab you should stay logged in.
It can also depend on other technical factors like what type of device you use and your browser settings, but try the X method first.

Thanks SuperUser - I will give that a try. If that doesn't work I will try to take a new perspective on it ..... and think how many calories I am burning up logging in my name etc. again Win:Win

I have the same problem in having to login everytime I access the forum. The answer given by SuperUser doesn't work in that exiting the forum by clicking on the X on the browser does not keep me logged in.
So could someone in the know please give a correct answer. Perhaps Tech Admin might indulge? :lips-sealed:

Have you tried emptying your temporary internet files?

The Forever login option is something that sets the length of time in a cookie on your computer. Primarily, it keeps the browser cookie from expiring.
Forever, simply means that the computer should remember you until you next choose to logout and not that you actually need to be online all of that time.
Therefore we get back to the realms of the more-technical like devices you are using and browser settings.
e.g.:
My Forever on a desktop using chrome browser will keep me logged in until I either logout or clear cookies.

You lost me at 'cookie'! I thought they were American bisquits... :cheesy:

Me too Frankie, quite fancy one now as I try to figure out when Forever stopped meaning Forever but became a time option for cookies. Think I'll put the kettle on...
