Title: Stain removal?

I have a black stain (I think possibly oil) on a pair of pink suede boots.  Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of it?

I spilt engine oil on a favourite dress years ago and found Swarfega removed it.

Whatever you use do try cold water first as you are not sure what it is.  If it is blood or any other protein hot water will cook it and set it.  If it is oil hot water may help when cold water fails

l'll try the cold water first, I think.  I'd hate to ruin them...
