Barbecues banned in the Campo
« on: 01 Jun, 2019, 09:12:53 am »
From today, Saturday 1st June until October 15, barbecues are forbidden in the countryside, the burning of stubble and the transit of motor vehicles through forest areas, reports Cadena SER.

The risk of fire is very high because it has also rained very little and the winter has been unusually warm. And Andalusia, in addition, is the region of Europe most vulnerable to climate change. That is why citizen collaboration is essential, as the president of the Board, Juan Manuel Moreno, who has visited the facilities of the Forest Defense Center in Aznalcóllar, has pointed out.

"I call for citizen collaboration and warning as soon as possible to the telephone number 112 any suspicious circumstances", said the president.

Infoca (Dispositivo para la Prevención y Extinción de Incendios Forestales de Andalucía) will have 4,462 troops this year, 36 more than last year. The Junta has also increased the available air resources by 3. In total there will be 42. The budget for prevention and extinction has risen by two million, up to 170.

I wonder if people will take any notice of this on 23rd / 24th June? Usually, they ignore it for San Juan.

The local farmers in the rambla behind me set fires all year round.
Take more than a rule to stop them.

I'm afraid you're right Raymondo, our neighbour decided to burn some garden branches and shrubby bits in July, the fire got well out of control and we had to get the hose out and help him extinquish the flames, water pressure was as usual very low,so it got a bit fraught out there!🚒

Shortly after moving here and trying to do things as they should be done, I went up to my Ayuntamiento as I had quite a lot of stuff which needed burning.  All the things you bring over and then find you don't need.  I asked the secretary for a licence and he scrabbled around in drawers and cupboards, the dust flying showed how long they'd been unopened, and eventually rang his counterpart in Seron.  Seron was a bit more clued up and told him what was needed and then had to fax the form through.  After I brought it home and filled it in I took it back up to Antonio.  This caused more head scratching and another call to Seron.
I drive back down again, passing some of the Old Fellas almost dancing around their own fires in a pyrotechnic frenzy.   It was obvious they did not have licences so I then decided i would not in future either.   I couldn't bear the thought of upsetting Antonio's day ever again...
Common sense really tells you not to burn in summer months or winter if the dried vegetation is close by and have water handy, just in case...
