Las Vegas Discotheque is demolished
« on: 29 Jun, 2020, 04:04:49 pm »
Demolition of the legendary disco 'Las Vegas' begins in Albox
The establishment was a benchmark of Spanish punk in the southeast during the 80s

The Las Vegas building had been abandoned for years and became very dilapidated, but it hid a whole legend of the punk-rock movement, a music and a philosophy of life that spread throughout the Spanish southeast thanks in large to the discotheque that was housed in the building between the eighties and nineties.

Well, that story has finally come to an end today with the demolition of the building, which took place this morning in Albox, where a backhoe machine has started to demolish the structure of the old establishment.

It was the derelict building to the left of the Correos as you are facing it.  At the top of that awfully steep hill which gives me the colliwobbles.

Really?  I thought that was a furniture shop and thy were still trading?  I bought quite a lot of items from them when I moved here 16 years ago and discovered my house had been owned by the shop owners Family.

I'm pleased Wolfie knew a little about it as I was unsure.

They are also working on a building down from suicide corner into San Francisco Sq.  immediately on the right at the bottom of the hill and opposite the old Unicaja bank. It's a big site but I don't know what it was before the machines arrived?

Does anyone know what happened to the grand plans to build a multistory car park on the site of the covered market?  I think they were trying to persuade people to move out of there.  It must have been at least 14 years ago.

Could well have been Judi.  I just remember thinking it was a good idea.
