Forest Fire in Macael

Nine forest firefighters from the Infoca Plan work to put out the flames
Reported 20:38 on 23rd September 2020

The Organisation for the Prevention and Extinction of Forest Fires in Andalusia (Plan Infoca) has warned of the emergence of a forest fire very close to the municipality of Macael, in the Almanzora Valley.

At the moment the causes of the fire are unknown, which is already being fought on the ground by nine forest firefighters, an operations technician, a fire engine and a transport and extinguishing helicopter.

In a photo shared on the Plan Infoca Twitter account, it can be seen that the flames are just a few meters from the houses in the town.

It is still very dry out in the campo.  The small amounts of rain we have had are not enough

I heard and saw the helicopters going down the valley with the water bags underneath and could smell smoke but could not see where he fire was.  I have some very tall pine trees beside my house and they block my view of Macael.  Glad no one was hurt.
