Macro pig farms
« on: 30 Dec, 2020, 08:28:45 am »
They are proposing to turn a pig farm near Los Llanos into a gigantic pig farm.  A friend of mine is concerned because she lives near it.  I have another friend in Almanzora who has had what was a derelict pig farm built about 100 metres from her house and conditions in the summer are horrendous.  They have built 2 gigantic ones in Almanzora

Rough (Google) translation from La Voz of an interview with the mayor of Arboleas who is strongly opposed but the pig farm is just over the border in Almanzra/Cantoria

https://www.lavozdealmeria.com/noticia/3/provincia/206467/alcalde-de-arboleas-no-podemos-convertir-nuestros-pueblos-en-villa-cochinos?fbclid=IwAR3c1gg5vO2qSjF4kYMeX28M4b6yH2ppJbeVX42reFXNie6L8OUD8iTpQEs

We cannot turn our towns into 'Villa-Pigs'. "With this crude -although not far from reality in some cases- hyperbole, the mayor of Arboleas clearly shows his position on the consequences of the macro-pig farms installed in environments natural or near populations.

The statements on Cadena SER by Cristóbal García, mayor of Arboleas, arose after being asked about the pig macrofarm projected within the municipality of Cantoria but in an area bordering the municipality of Arboleas. Given the concern transferred by the residents, the Arboleas City Council decided to present several allegations in the Cantorian Council against this project and, once they have been rejected, the Arbolean mayor has decided to take another step.

"Our neighbors closest to the site of the future farm have presented us with a claim asking us to do something," Garcia acknowledges before detailing some tools available to municipalities to stop this activity in the event that it may cause inconvenience. "We have had a municipal ordinance for 25 years that regulates the location of pig farms at least 2 kilometers from an urban center and the law that governs these annoying activities is also around one kilometer or two kilometers," he recalls.
Concern for the new swine macrofarm is greater because it is only "about 460 meters from our closest population centers which are the Llanos de Arboleas we are forced to proceed accordingly," he asserts in reference to the legal actions taken by its City Council against the neighbor, both also governed by the same political color (PSOE).

Even so, for Cristóbal García this is not a question of political acronyms or of confrontation between municipalities but of defending what the neighbors understand to be an attack on their own interests "since" unfortunately a pig farm devalues everything that is in its environment. If someone does not know, they should take an appraised and tease the nearest houses before the farm and after the farm, "he invites whoever is referred to.

"The judge will say what he has to decide but we are going to fight because we understand that a pig farm in the 21st century if it exists there is no other choice but to endure it, but if it is intended to be a new one, we are in time to avoid it because it cannot be favor one person and harm thousands. This is the fundamental reason: we cannot turn our towns into 'Villa-Pigs', points out the mayor of Arboleas.

It should be remembered that the progress in the processing for the installation of a macro-farm by the Cantoria City Council has awakened a wide neighborhood mobilization in the urban nucleus of Almanzora, belonging to the Cantorian municipality, where many residents recently demonstrated asking that this project be faced which, as they consider, would significantly worsen the quality of life of the residents and the future possibilities in sectors such as tourism, among others.

There are already 2 huge ones in or near Almanzora Roscoe.  One is off the road that goes from the old bridge across the rambla to the road behind Lidl.  About 1.5k from the bridge there is a sharp right turn with bins and a rough track going off to the left.  It is off that.  There are about 4 houses and the application said they were derelict and uninhabitted.  Nobody checked.  Those houses also had their water cut off for 3 months earlier this year.

The other one I can see from near The Carril in Arboleas and it is across the river bed to the left of Almanzora - it looks immense

The one our Mayor is trying to stop is near the motorway bridge over the rambla that goes to Albox, I think Rambla de Honda.  It is just in Almanzora/Cantoria as the rambla is the border.  According to Mike at the own Hall the application only showed a map of the Cantoria area so it was not near housing but it is not much more than 100mtrs from the houses at the back of Los Llanos/Happy Garden which are in Arboleas.
