This highway was originally announced in 1985 but work did not commence until 2005
The Ministry of Development, Infrastructure and Land Planning recently awarded the work for a section of the Almanzora El Cucador-La Concepción Highway in the sum of 25,329,686.77 euros to a Temporary Union of Companies formed by Martín Casillas and Construcciones Tejera.
The project, which gives continuity to the Albox-El Cucador stretch, includes the construction of a new road of 3.3 kilometers, four lanes of 3.5 meters wide each, and outer shoulders of 2.5.
A 300-meter bridge over the Almanzora River and two other viaducts will also be built to bridge the Llorón ravine and the Agua ravine.
This section will be completed with two on/off ramps. One of them is for the traffic coming from Zurgena and the districts of El Cucador and La Alfoquía. The second link will allow access to the nuclei of La Concepción and Palaces de Huércal-Overa, as well as to the photovoltaic power station located nearby.
It will not however connect to the A-7 motorway as this is a separate section for which the contract has not yet been awarded but will invite tenders "in the next few months" and announce the results "this year". Quotes of around 24 million are expected.
It is the intention of the Ministry to finalise this highway during the current parliamentary mandate, a very important step "after so many years of breaches and false promises to the neighbours of the region".
It should also be remembered that part of the delay was due to a previous construction company failing costing the Andalusian government around 16 million euros.
