The Almanzora Palace has found a major ally for its rehabilitation in the Minister of Culture for the Spanish Government, José Guirao.
Born in Pulpí, the head of Culture in the government of Pedro Sánchez has valued the historical characteristics and the importance of the property for the heritage of the province considering it “a magnificent example of architecture that we have to recover for civic, social and cultural activities and especially for itself.”
The words of the minister came days after he visited the Almanzora and Cantoria area, where he viewed the recently remodeled railway station, as well as the palace, accompanied by the mayor, Puri Sánchez, although he assured everyone "I have known the palace for a lifetime, for forty years, and I have seen how it has deteriorated" he said.
Guirao reiterated his words about the palace "as an example of the architecture and history of our province." Asked by Alfredo Casas from Cadena SER about the possible rehabilitation of the building, in a worrying state of deterioration for years, the minister has pledged to work for it's recovery "to the extent that we can work through 1.5% Cultural”. This line of aid allocates the indicated percentage of each development work and infrastructure for the conservation of natural heritage. A fund for which the Cantorian Council has been applying for a long time.
Guirao said he was "committed" to getting the Almanzora Palace rehabilitated, which he explained is "one of the few - if not the only one - with half-palatial architecture with a rural origin but with a cultured architecture in the countryside, outside a city or large town”.
