A.P.S.A. Annual Sponsored Doggy Walk
« on: 18 Oct, 2019, 10:51:57 am »
This year the A.P.S.A. annual sponsored walk will be on Sunday morning 3rd November.

The walk starts from the Roseleda Bar area of Los Llanos in Arboleas and returns to the Roseleda afterwards.

There is plenty of parking space on either side of the road depending on your direction of travel : The Desert Grass / Bar International side of the road as well as the Roseleda, Saturday market side.

We are meeting just after 10:30 for an 11:00am start and the walk is around one and a half hours. The route is flat and easy but it is mostly on dusty farm tracks and therefore Trainers or Shoes are advised as opposed to flip flops or sandals.

There will be a few maps available at the start and signposts but the route is rectangular and easy to follow.

You don't need to have a dog to join us, some of our kennel dogs will be there, of different sizes etc. so you could always choose one or two when you arrive and like the grandkids, hand them back after a couple of hours....

Approximately halfway round there is a rest stop for drinks and water for the dogs. Please bring your own bottle of water if you normally have more on your walks or it is hot.

Sponsorship forms are available from the APSA shop in Albox or download one here: Form = PDF Document

If you can help raise as much as possible for the animals in our care it would be great, and also when you are out with your dog and see another owner, please mention this much loved and well supported event. The dogs at the kennels do get regular walks but they really enjoy this day out.

Thank you

Cheers Judi, you were one of the heroes of the day, conquering some fear of dogs and your wonderful photos.

It was *slightly* windy but most said it was a benefit, keeping it cooler with plenty of fresh air etc.

Afterwards, it was suggested we do it more often than once a year, not sponsored as such but to let the dogs exercise and socialise... the APSA committee are looking at perhaps every couple of months, will advise when decided.. other volunteers to find routes are being sought - an hour and half or so ending somewhere the dogs can get a refreshing drink, hahaha

There are a couple I can think of from Bar La Cinta and one from the village up the river bed one side and back the other.  I keep thinking about the poor dog from the kennel who wanted to walk but couldn't because his claws were so ivergrown.  Is someone clipping them?

There was a volunteer to go yesterday to help hold him whilst it was done, it's a two person job.
