Saliente Monastery on a Roundabout
« on: 14 Apr, 2021, 02:12:13 pm »
We wondered what the heck they were building on the first roundabout from Arboleas into Albox on the Jumacer/Pimans side.... here's the latest from LaVoz

Quote from: La Voz de Almeria
Planes, abandoned cars, tractors and even swimming pools. Today the possibilities of surprising by decorating a roundabout are very limited after this type of construction has supported all kinds of vehicles or ideas such as those mentioned at the beginning of this article; all of them true no matter how crazy they may seem.

However, few residents of Albox expected that a large church or monastery, according to the silhouette that is already glimpsed, would decorate one of the main roundabouts located on the A-334 road that gives access to this town. The work, which began weeks ago, is already well advanced. So much so that you can even guess a more than possible tribute to the main monument in Albox: El Santuario del Saliente.

There have been few residents who have already begun to speculate with this possibility after noticing the coincidences between the construction that is being carried out in the roundabout and the façade of the sanctuary, which houses the Virgen del Saliente, patron saint of Albox.

In fact, Albox Town Council surprised its neighbours days ago when it echoed the laying of the first stone of  an enigmatic "monument",  in one of the roundabouts at the entrance to the municipality from the Redia del Almanzora (A-334) and that "it will be the pride of all the residents and visitors who come to our municipality", as they said at that time.

As this newspaper has learned from municipal sources, the sculpture will be a scale replica , made with natural stone 'travertine' and using cutting-edge technology from companies specialized in working with this type of material, the most important economic sector in the region.

The acting mayor, José Campoy, also assured that it would be "something unique and a monumental entrance" to the municipality. In fact, you can already see with the naked eye a silhouette built with this type of natural stone that follows the profile of the sanctuary and in whose highest part (presumably the bell tower) the workers are currently working on.

Countdown, therefore, to completely solve a mystery that is increasingly less of an enigma and more of a presumed great tribute to the monumental sanctuary in Albox.

The main problem is that you can't see if any traffic is coming from the other direction until it appears around the "monastery ".  Traffic calming I suppose?
