Oh Boris....time to go and take your annual salary
« on: 24 Sep, 2019, 12:06:55 pm »
The Supreme Court has just ruled that the P.M. lied to the Queen and was unlawful in suspending parliament. Will there be any political consequences ? On the eve of this verdict there was bungling Boris saying he may go for another suspension of parliament if he lost the verdict. I understand he is able to keep his PM salary if he resigns now ? I do not feel he will step down. Parliament will presumably reopen right now. Cannot wait for the first live session featuring the PM (if he turns up)

Well said to Lady Hale and the other judges.  Surely Boris can no longer keep his position?

Not only will he keep his position Frankie but he will probably win the next election.

Many voters will ignore his lack of integrity and suitability to hold such an esteemed position in favour of voting for a party which represents their views.

I often wondered how American voters could select such a corrupting force as Trump. When I look around the UK  I now fully understand how it could have happened.

Richard, when I read your posts about the state of the the UK and the attitudes of UK voters, I feel really depressed.

Then I think, maybe you are a bit of an old fart, like me, and the people you connect to, are mostly old farts too.

Brexit voting, imperialists! Lots of old farts are!

Maybe your peceptions are out of date, and now there are less old farts on the electoral register now.

The demography of the UK is changing pretty rapidly.. Not only are there more younger voters, but they have become more politicised

by the climate change campaigns, and are now more likely to vote.  They also want to travel and study in Europe.

There is some hope.

On Spanish news this morning they were saying that Brussels was celebrating the UK court’s decision.

Ukelele, I wish I could share your optimism but I fear that things will move pretty well as rt21 has posted.

Sometimes I have to admit I do feel like a a bit of an old fart

Although I have a fairly negative view of what is currently happening in the UK, you may be surprised to learn that I have an optimistic view of the future.

The demographics are indeed changing but I doubt whether the effects will kick in for a couple of years. Brexit voters were largely represented by older folk and if the pollsters are to be believed that element of the Brexit vote has been gradually shrinking. In my humble opinion that is one of the reasons why Brexit politicians would not be keen to have another referendum on the outcome of the negotiations with the E.U.

The next election in some ways is difficult to predict. I believe the conservatives will lose many seats in Scotland and also lose seats to the Liberal Democrats in the South and South West. However, given their current polling they are likely to do well in the Brexit constituencies of the Labour Party. A complicating factor might be the Brexit Party who could split the Brexit vote and allow the Labour Party to hold on to some of these seats. Another complicating factor is the turnout of younger voters who tend to be anti conservative and anti Brexit. Although they tend to have a relatively low propensity to vote, if they did turn out in numbers that may turn all predictions on the outcome of the next election on its head.  Having said all that I would have to accept the wisdom of the pollsters who predict that the conservatives will increase the number of seats they currently hold.

Although I think the Conservative party are likely to win the next election I believe that this will be their high point and their fortunes will decline thereafter.  As their natural base shrinks through what I shall euphemistically call natural forces they will have great difficulty attracting younger voters.

And as you rightly point out successful parties of the future will have to attract younger voters. They will not do so with the current outdated policies of the two main parties.

I also believe that as the current older generation is replaced by a younger one this country will again look towards Europe as a close partner.

Indeed Richard.

The debate today has been absolutely shocking but expected I guess after the Supreme Court judgement. The MPs of the House have hammered Boris for his choice of language. Even the conservative MPs will find it hard to defend his choice of words. Boris continued to show not one shred of humiity as he was pulled from pillar to post by most of the house to apologise. The Court did not impune the motives of the Government he retorted and the best way to show humility is to deliver Brexit by 31/10 he kept repeating to nearly every question. His answers got shorter by the minute daring the opposition. The SNPs showed him no mercy.

The EU seem to be pretty clear that there are no real negotiations going on. If Boris Johnson really wants to pass the withdrawal agreement on 19 October he will need to ask for an extension now. An extension, remember, that he said he would rather "die in a ditch" than seek.

He has just stated he will not before he legged it from Parliament about an hour ago to the astonishment of the MPs and the speaker. I wonder what the viewing public in the UK and around the EU thought of the answers Boris gave and his behaviour.

One wonders if this push for the deadline without a deal are fueled by a large number of Boris Johnson´s cabinet. Rees-Mogg in line for a huge personal windfall when Britain exits the single market. His firm Somerset Capital has 9.6 billion dollars under management according to its website.  Banking on Brexit!

At this stage it is clear, all leavers with or without a deal would actually be happy with a Baboon taking the UK out of the EU right now, and that appears to be what they have.

Having watched the debacle in the commons last night the thing which really stood out for me was the fact that Boris was not apologetic about his behaviour but was loving every minute of the session.  He seems to thrive in these hateful atmospheres which he creates.  I was also watching the reaction of his conservative members who were happily nodding along in agreement to his responses.  Whether it was due to not wishing to put themselves in the position of being shown the door as 23 others have and feel that grovelling will keep them in favour.
I was a conservative voter since I was first allowed the vote at age 18, now I despise what the party has become.

I am genuinely frightened.  It is so like the rise of the Nazis.  It is populism at its worst, stirring up the masses into a frenzy of hate.  What he said about Jo Cox was an absolute disgrace.

I have never been a Tory voter but I am not crowing, Labour are hardly covering themselves in glory.  It looks as though I do have a proxy vote and I really do not know what to ask my friend to do with it.

I may have removed my last post in error. !!!
I just commented that Boris's sister has turned against him after his brother resigned due to his outrageous behaviour long before he became PM both in his private and political life.
If thats what 51%voted for then God help us.
What a man to appoint as PM of (  Great Britain.)
Over to the right Honourable Member from Albox who is a staunch supporter of this Pillock and has been quiet recently.
😁🍻

I wonder what James Cleverly thinks of his PM of the (UK) after watching this clip ?

https://skwawkbox.org/2019/10/02/video-johnson-skips-shaking-black-hands-at-tory-conference/

Can the Baboon convince the EU leaders in the next few days ? I see the DUP can have a veto over the whole process, so doing the maths, more "bought" votes coming the PMs way now. DUP will do anything for money ?

It is just a repackaged deal and the EU may not buy it. If it is a platform by Boris to build from then it can be discussed further, but that would upset his hedge fund chums, Rees-Mogg and the like who will gain millions in a no deal Brexit. You could not make it up !
