COVID UPDATE

The daily infections are continuing to rise, although Spain is much lower than many other countries.

Germany 73,000
UK 54,000
France 48,000
Spain 14,000

Spain has currently an infection rate of 234 per 100,000.
But there is a very wide variation across Spain.
Navarre 676
Basque 552
Almeria 117
Levante 64

Most if the infections are within the under 12s.

In Almeria there have been no deaths for the past 8 days.
The total number in ICU in Almeria is 11, 31 in hospital.
In Spaiun there are 4093 people in hospital with Covid.

80% of the Spanish population are fully vaccinated, and 66% of the over 70s have received the booster.

This month Spain will receive 1.2 million special vaccines aimed at the 5 to 11 year olds, and a further 2 million due in January, for the 3.3 million children in that age range.

We will be living with this virus for many years.
The important issue is what effect it will have on our lives, and that depends on how effective the vaccine will be in suppressing serious infections.

I'm surprised at the number of people I see when I venture down the valley towards Albox, who are either wearing masks under their chins or nothing at all.  I wonder if that's because up here in the badlands, it's an aging population who are used to doing what they are told to do? :undecided:

The rule (as I understand it) is that you wear a mask in shops and outside on the street if you cannot maintain a 1.5m distance from others that are not in your bubble.

When the covid restrictions first came into force I looked at the requirements and was told wearing masks and gloves were the only requirements.
I went to Mercadona and everyone else was wearing clothes!!  :undecided:
